DirecTV subscribers shut out of World Cup live streaming on mobile devices

DIRECTV customers are unable to see streaming mobile content on smartphones and tablets because WatchESPN-enabled networks covering the world’s biggest sporting event are not available on the satellite TV service. Only Spanish-language broadcasts from the Univision family of networks are available via live stream to DirecTV customers. ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC are carrying live coverage of the 64-match soccer tournament, which runs through the July 13 championship final, and DirecTV subscribers can watch at home or set their DVRs via smartphone or tablet to record matches. They just can’t stream them live on the go in English like Comcast Xfinity, Dish Network and Verizon FiOS subscribers. – Dave Sottile,
