TDS to light up 1 Gbps, IPTV service in Waterford, Wis.

[TDS Telecommunications Corp.] has named the Waterford, Wisconsin, area as its next destination where it will offer its 1 Gbps fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and IPTV-based TDS TV service. […] Similar to Google Fiber’s “fiberhood” concept, Fiberville is designed to educate residents about its pre-registration process in markets where it is going to offer its FTTH and TDS TV service. It rewards residents and neighborhoods with special offers and discounts once 15 percent of the neighborhood pre-registers for TDS TV service. When a neighborhood achieves “Fiberville” status, each pre-registered household receives free HD for life, according to TDS. Although its plans aren’t as vast as its larger ILEC counterparts AT&T and CenturyLink, TDS has been making progress in rolling out FTTH and 1 Gbps services. Outside of Wisconsin, the telco is offering the fiber-based broadband service in both Hollis, New Hampshire and New London, New Hampshire. – Sean Buckley,FierceTelecom
