As streaming space gets crowded, Rdio changes tune

With what the company calls the biggest update in its history launching Thursday, Rdio is retaining its traditional on-demand, subscription-based service but will also include free streaming. […] Similar to Pandora or Songza, Rdio’s free version limits how users can listen, for instance only allowing them to skip a certain number of songs. As such, the app will try and upsell users to its paid service. Now available in 60 countries, Rdio has been in Canada for four years, but its changes come at interesting time in the market. Spotify has announced that it is coming to Canada, although it is still unknown when it will arrive. And Google is preparing to launch YouTube Music Key, a paid subscription service that will provide listeners access to a wealth of music, like live recordings, although it is unclear when it will launch as well. – Raju Mudhar,The Toronto Star
