Cut the cord? NFL obsession won’t allow it

Looking over last year’s Nielsen numbers shows nine of the 10 most-watched shows were NFL-related. The one outlier was the Oscars, which ranked No. 7 — above the Wildcard and divisional-round games but below the conference championships and all the Super Bowl programming. […] It’s these live events — football, the Oscars, other sports, other awards shows – that keep many people from completely “cutting the cord.” These types of programming beg to be experienced in the moment. Sure, they can be DVR’d and watched later, but have you ever tried avoiding the score of a Packers game until you could get home and watch it?
