ARD says TV content drives rising internet use in Germany

Public broadcaster ARD/ZDF said 55.6 million people in Germany use the internet, or 79 percent of the population aged 14 and over. This is a rise of 1.4 million from last year. ARD said one in two web users utilises mobile internet, driven by rising demand for television content. Use of broadcasters’ VoD services has climbed from 28 percent in 2013 to 32 percent in 2014. ARD said 35 percent of web users watch time-shift TV and 25 percent watch telly ‘live’. Internet TV accounts for 3 percent of daily television viewing, or 8 minutes out of 248 minutes, up from five minutes and 2 percent of viewing time. – Telecompaper
