Netflix Loses, Amazon Gains in Streaming Traffic

Amazon’s gain and Netflix’s decline don’t necessarily mean that people are watching less Netflix. It’s more likely that improvements to Netflix’s streaming and compression algorithms is responsible for the drop. […] Even though it accounts for the majority of Internet traffic, the growth rate of streaming video and audio has declined somewhat and will likely continue to do so. It is up only 1 percent from Sandvine’s last report in December. The firm projects it will gain another 10 percent by 2020 to reach 80 percent of Internet traffic.
