CBS brings its ad-supported streaming service to Amazon Channels

CBS in the beginning of the year brought its streaming service for cord cutters, CBS All Access, to Amazon’s a la carte TV service, Prime Video Channels. At the time, however, only the higher-priced, $9.99 per month commercial-free subscription was offered to Prime members. At the time, CBS said its $5.99 per month ad-supported tier would arrive in the months ahead. Lord of the Rings Update: Amazon Taps Trek Film Writers to Develop TV Series

The streaming service has hired screenwriters JD Payne and Patrick McKay to develop the much-hyped TV series version of the classic J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy books, TVLine has learned. The duo is currently writing the fourth entry in the Star Trek film reboot franchise for J.J. Amazon releases Prime Video app in the Google Play Store for phones and tablets

The Amazon Video app for Android phones and tablets notably still does not have support for Chromecast. The six-episode TV series adaptation will mimic the podcast in form and content, with documentary-style retellings of creepy events and myths from throughout history.
