Filmmakers Withdraw Popcorn Time ‘Blocking’ Request After Google Shows Up * TorrentFreak

Several movie companies have withdrawn a broad injunction request that would require ISPs and other Internet services to block access to the Popcorn Time app. The decision comes shortly after Google intervened. Trans Employee Who Criticized Netflix’s Release of Dave Chappelle Special Says ‘It Was Never About Dave’

“Dave [Chappelle] is not, and has never been, the cause of this problem — he is a symptom of it,” Field writes. “That [Chappelle] believes the things he says and can say them with relative impunity is a result of the culture we live in: a culture that marginalizes and devalues trans people. He contributes to that culture in a very real way, but at least he isn’t out there bragging about how many LGBTQ+ allyship awards he has won while he is doing it.” – J. Dave Chappelle ‘Closer’ Controversy Blast Radius Grows As Netflix Pink Slips Dismayed Staffer Over Leak

The employee in question is not Terra Field. The Northern California based senior software engineer posted pointed tweets about Chappelle’s trans focused special and how it made her feel as a trans staffer at the streamer. In a case of terrible timing, Field and two other staffers were placed on suspension earlier this week for allegedly crashing a virtual meeting above their pay grade. As blowback to the suspension and a ill-considered memo from co-CEO Ted Sarandos was made red faced public, Netflix terminated the suspensions. – Dominic Patten, Deadline Hollywood » https://ift.tt/2YRrjFn
