Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May’s new show for Amazon finally has a name: The Grand Tour. Tesla announces in-car streaming partnership with Spotify

Spotify is now part of the in-car entertainment package on each Tesla Motors Model S, so you won’t need a mobile device, or even a Spotify Premium account. Each car has a built-in Spotify Premium account that will work only with that vehicle, although users will have the option to link their existing account if they choose. – Bryan Clark, The Next Web

Why The Car Industry Needs To Rethink The Dashboard User Interface Design

photo: TechCrunch

[T]echnology adoption in cars today is hitting an inflection point, and the UI model we have grown accustomed to cannot handle it. Connectivity, smartphone integration, autonomous driving and augmented reality displays — the list of technologies for cars is long and growing. The combined effect of long automotive design cycles that cannot keep pace with digital technology and the legacy of direct control make for clumsy dashboard design. […] We seem to be on the cusp of change, especially with Apple’s anticipated entry into the car market. The trend of direct control and complexity cannot continue; the industry needs a new vision for the dashboard. – Cobie Everdell, TechCrunch

No, we’re not referring to former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, although their reunion on Amazon Prime could be worthy of that title. What we’re really talking about is the trio of hybrid hypercars — the Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918, and McLaren P1 — which were long rumored to go head-to-head on the famed BBC program. Words were said and fists were (allegedly) flung, leaving that iteration of Top Gear dead, but the monumental battle appears to be happening in a different arena. – Andrew Hard, Digital Trends

John Deere Thinks People Will Pirate Music With In-Car Computers

Did you know that it’s illegal to tinker with the code in your in-car computer? Thanks to the nuances of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), you’re not even supposed to inspect the inner workings of your vehicle’s circuitry. This is absurd, which is why the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is fighting for a better policy. – Adam Clark Estes, Gizmodo

Adding Bluetooth support to your car

I just bought a used Toyota Matrix 2011 and it has an AUX port to plug your phone or MP3 player so it plays on the car radio. It’s a great feature and I’ve been using it but the audio wire is annoying and is always in the way. I have decided to add a Bluetooth audio receiver to the car while making sure the AUX port is still available if needed. – Guillaume Fournier,Instructables
