Your YouTube copyright claim now needs to be more specific

“Starting today, we will require copyright owners to provide timestamps to indicate exactly where their content appears in videos … and we’re improving our video editing tools in Creator Studio to make it easier for creators to remove the content associated with these claims,” Julian Bill, YouTube product manager, wrote in a blog post Tuesday. – Shelby Brown, CNET » https://cnet.co/2NNsYW9

My Next Chapter

Since running a profitable website about a product that I would be directly involved with would be a clear conflict of interest, I am stepping away from AFTVnews. This will be my final post. I imagine hearing that is going to be disappointing to many of you, but I hope that you can understand and support my decision. I’ve spent the last five years writing thousands of articles covering every minute detail of the Fire TV, reading nearly all of your tens of thousands of comments, and responding to countless questions across emails, comments, forums, and social media. In that time I’ve learned just as much from you as you have from me and I know that you’ll accept this bittersweet news in stride. Thank you for supporting me with your patronage all these years and I hope that I’ve been able to return the favor in some way. – Elias Saba, AFTVnews » http://bit.ly/2DHmkt8

PewDiePie dethroned by T-Series as YouTube’s most subscribed channel

It’s likely that we will see the record flip-flop in a never-ending back-and-forth until the heat death of the universe but in recent months, the battle has become less about the record itself and more about the real-world hacks and various big names that have joined the so-called battle. – Richard Trenholm & Jackson Ryan, CNET » https://ift.tt/2UzL0tY

Netflix pleads with people to stop doing the ‘Bird Box’ challenge

One viral meme shows a blindfolded family paddling away in their bathtub. Another shows a family running through their living room and one managing to hit the wall instead. There are numerous videos of random people walking blindfolded in cities like New York because sure, why not. One person put a hat over his head while driving. – Kirsten Korosec, TechCrunch https://tcrn.ch/2Tq14NP

Jack Black is launching a new YouTube channel mostly dedicated to gaming

The comedian-turned-actor announced his arrival on the platform earlier this week. His channel, Jablinski Games, will “have games, food, and life,” according to a description underneath the video. While Black is the focus of the video, it’s his son who’s taking on the role as director and editor — something the comedian makes abundantly clear in a comment. – Julia Alexander, The Verge http://bit.ly/2LAzFG7

Are YouTube’s Algorithms Fueling Creator Burnout?

YouTube’s platform changes have exacerbated the problem, according to industry execs and creators. Its recommendations are critical traffic drivers, leading to approximately 70% of overall watch time on the service. The updates in how the Google-owned video platform recommends content have spurred creators to work at an even more feverish pitch — some clocking 80- to 100-hour workweeks just to maintain their status, according to one talent agent. Others have turned to ever-crazier stunts to get clicks, with a few abandoning the bounds of good taste. And the amount of content uploaded to YouTube keeps growing, making competition for eyeballs even more intense. – Todd Spangler, Variety https://ift.tt/2LDm8fA
