Margaret Atwood’s ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Book Sequel ‘The Testaments’ In The Works By MGM TV & Hulu

MGM and Hulu are currently in talks with Handmaid’s showrunner Bruce Miller about how the upcoming novel can become an extension to the series, which was recently picked up for a fourth season by Hulu. The Testaments picks up more than fifteen years after Offred’s final scene in The Handmaid’s Tale novel, and is narrated by three female characters. Netflix is making a cyberpunk detective series

The series is based on Altered Carbon, a cyberpunk detective novel from author Richard K. Morgan. It’s set in a world where human consciousness is regularly transferred from one body to the next; this particular story focuses on a former soldier whose newest body gets him wrapped up in big conspiracy and someone else’s love life. An initial 10-episode season is planned based off a script by showrunner Laeta Kalogridis, who wrote the screenplay for Shutter Island and co-wrote Terminator Genisys. – Jacob Kastrenakes, The Verge

Matt Bomer To Star In ‘The Last Tycoon’ Amazon Pilot, Lifting Contingency

Matt Bomer, coming off a starring role in American Horror Story: Hotel, has been tapped as the lead in The Last Tycoon, Amazon Studios’ drama pilot based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s final unfinished novel. The project, from Sony’s TriStar Television, was quietly ordered earlier this month as cast-contingent. ’13 Reasons Why’ is based on a novel of the same name that has seen massive success, including having hit the number one spot on The New York Times Best Sellers list. The novel follows a package sent from a young student who had taken her own life. With ‘Bosch’ in production, Amazon revs up Web-TV foray

“Bosch” is based on the popular book series by mystery writer (and former Los Angeles Times reporter) Michael Connelly, who is also an executive producer on the series. […] Web-based TV production in Los Angeles has surged 353 percent from 2008 to 2013, according to a report by FilmL.A. Inc., which tracks film permits for the city and county. Web-based shows now account for as many production days in L.A. as sitcoms.
