Netflix has made it clear in the past that they aren’t that interested in getting invested in reality TV shows anyway, although I guess this skews closer to the mold of their docu-series Chef’s Table. In any case, it’s clear that no one at the company felt the need to test those waters with Jeremy Clarkson and his often outspoken ways. – Nick Venable, Cinema Blend

Well-known for keeping details about its ratings under wraps, Netflix isn’t always as good about hiding how much money it’s spending on upcoming projects. And the streaming service’s upcoming series The Crown, a period drama about the reign of Queen Elizabeth, is by far its most exorbitantly priced effort yet. When all is said and done, the production will reportedly have run up a $150 million price tag. With that kind of money, one can actually live like royalty. – Nick Venable, Cinema Blend

Well, This Is The Worst News For Cable Companies Yet

Wall Street research firm Pacific Crest has put their efforts to figuring out just how well (or not) cable subscription services have fared in the past six years, and things are looking more dour than ever. The rate of people dropping cable has been solidly steady in recent years, as the 88% of households in 2010 with subscriptions to companies like Comcast and Time Warner Cable has dropped down to 80% in 2015. So almost 2% of subscribers are dropping cable per year, on average. Yikes. – Nick Venable, Cinema Blend

[T]he viewership may not have been the culprit for the cancellation. While Steven Van Zandt seems to be proud of the effort he and the creative team put into the first three seasons of the drama, he’s a bit more ominous in his tweet when it comes to explaining why Netflix opted not to pick up a fourth season of the program. “Business got too complicated,” could mean any number of things, from the creative end to the monetary end. We’ll let you know if the service eventually makes a statement regarding the cancellation or if we learn more about why Lilyhammer was given the boot. – Jessica Rawden, Cinema Blend

So while it looks like we won’t be seeing Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdoch in the upcoming series, the two series may have a very similar feel since they’ll be using many of the same locations. This certainly makes sense as the entire premise of the multiple Netflix series for Marvel is that they are more street level heroes than the Avengers of the big screen. To that end it makes sense that they be literally the same streets. – Dirk Libbey, Cinema Blend

One of the major hold-ups in direction is the mystical elements of Iron Fist. There are too many different opinions on just how much of those magics Marvel wants to bring to the show. – Catarina Cowden, Cinema Blend

How Popular Netflix Is Relative To The Major Networks

In order to get these numbers, the analysts took Netflix’s claims that its users streamed around 10 billion hours of its video library in the first quarter of 2015 – which comes out to around 2 hours of viewing a day per subscriber – and divided that number by 24 hours, then multiplying that figure by the number of Netflix subscribers in the U.S., using that last number as a percentage of households in order to come up with a Nielsen rating. When everything was tallied, Netflix had a Q1 rating of 2.6, which is right around what ABC and NBC are getting. – Nick Venable, Cinema Blend

Netflix Defends Adam Sandler After Native Americans Walk Off His New Movie

Adam Sandler’s revolutionary foray into a production deal with Netflix is running into a snag. Sandler’s hard at work on a Western comedy titled The Ridiculous Six, which currently is filming in New Mexico. Native American actors taking umbrage with depictions in the script have walked off. Instead of bowing to the controversy, though, Netflix is firing back. – Sean O’Connell, Cinema Blend

Netflix Is Now Worth More Than This TV Network

It’s safe to say that Netflix has grown into a monolithic multi-media monster. Yet, as often as that fact is discussed, the true breadth of its growth is probably not something that is widely conceived. However, news coming from the company’s first quarter earnings report for 2015 may drive that point home better than anything else thus far. It seems that Netflix’s market value now stands at $32.9 billion; a number that will exceeds the $30.6 billion value of the CBS network! – Joseph Baxter, Cinema Blend

In an interview with SciFiNow Magazine, Steven S. DeKnight stated that he hoped the darker nature of Daredevil would be able to convince Marvel executives to give Punisher, one of DeKnight’s favorite characters, his own Netflix series. ” I’ve been a huge fan of the Punisher comics for years. I’d love to see him get his due on a platform like this. Nothing would delight me more than to see the Punisher get his own show and maybe we could convince Marvel to go Hard-R rating. If any character deserves an R rating, it’s the Punisher”. said DeKnight. – Adam Holmes, Cinema Blend
