The non-profit Liberty Justice Center filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court on Wednesday claiming the city had no authority to impose the tax, approved in June, which is expected to result in bill hikes for thousands of Chicagoans. The suit argues the city Finance Department’s decision is illegal, and the comptroller “exceeded his authority.” Specifically, the suit claims the tax was slipped in using a creative interpretation of an old municipal code. Future of streaming music must include fairness for songwriters

Companies like Pandora clearly resist this for one reason: their business thrives on the backs of songwriters, while many songwriters are barely getting by. How this is happening is simple. Digital streaming companies take advantage of the fact that the songwriting and music licensing world exists in the Stone Age, not the Digital Age. – David Israelite, Fox News http://ift.tt/1pnugUR
