Carry your own drive-in theater with this collapsible, car-mounted movie screen

Livingston’s portable projection screen, the Hitch Theater, can be set up using the hitch on your truck (thus the name), and a projector stand which is placed on the roof of the truck and projected onto the screen. Don’t have a trailer hitch/ enough room in the truck bed for everybody? No problem: Hitch Theaters also sells a projector mount and screen mount that allow you to set it up just about anywhere. – Ed Oswald, Digital Trends

MovieSwap DVD-Streaming Service Canceled

For now, Vodkaster will focus on its existing DVD-to-digital and streaming platform in France, which claims to have a collection of 200,000 discs. “We have an ambitious win-win plan to make the (electronic sell-through) market grow through a new, smart disc-to-digital user experience, including strong partnerships with major French retailers,” [CEO Cyril Barthet] said. – Todd Spangler, Variety

A brilliant plan to make online movie sharing legal

There’s a new movie streaming service called MovieSwap that wants to make DVD movie sharing popular again, but with a modern twist that’s likely to enrage movie studios. For just €5($5.58), you can get lifetime access to MovieSwap and early access to the beta of the program this August. That’s the lowest Kickstarter tier for this new campaign, which has already reached its €35,000 goal in the first couple of days after launch. – Chris Smith, BGR

MST3K breaks Kickstarter records, secures 14 new episodes

The end result of all those tweets, campaign videos, and nostalgia-plucking Mystery Science Theater 3000 reruns? A staggering $6.3 million, a number that includes hundreds of thousands in “add-on” donations, plus a record-breaking $5,764,229 on Kickstarter itself, the highest amount ever raised for a video project on the crowdfunding platform. (The new series just barely beat out the previous record holder, the Veronica Mars movie.) – William Hughes, The A.V. Club

Sideclick is shaping up to be a killer remote control for streaming video

photo: Sideclick

The best thing about Sideclick is how simple—and obvious—it appears to be. Essentially, it’s a small IR blaster with eight programmable buttons and a clip-on cradle for your streaming remote of choice . By adding TV functions such as power, volume, and input, Sideclick solves the problem of needing two remotes just to watch Netflix on a separate streaming video player. – Jared Newman, TechHive

Zachary Quinto, who portrayed the Spock character in the two latest “Star Trek” films, will narrate the film. – Dave McNary, Variety

Some Anonabox routers recalled for lack of basic security

It turns out the routers in question shipped without Wi-Fi password protection. Yup, the Anonabox “cloaking device” didn’t have the simplest form of router security, a network password. Sure users could anonymously surf the Internet via Tor, but they couldn’t stop anyone from within Wi-Fi range from hopping on their network and potentially hacking their devices. It was also determined that the root password of the affected devices is the incredibly easy to guess “Admin.”Roberto Baldwin, Engadget
