US media players get on AVOD goldrush bandwagon

Netflix Killer? Disney Plus Growth Not Affecting Competitors Yet

The first monthly activity report from Apptopia on Disney + engagement shows that despite the very quick rise of Disney+ downloads across mobile and connected TV platforms Netflix and established companies are not loosing any steam. On the other hand Disney is seeing a big impact on its other streaming services Hulu and ESPN+. Short-form streaming originals to boom

The study also showed that Facebook currently has the most short-form originals with a focus on news and current affairs, including daily broadcast news programme, Fox News Update. Short-form was also seen to be popular in Asia, and Hong Kong’s Viu came in second globally for the volume of short-form originals currently on their platform, most of which were reality or entertainment. Disney Plus Tops 15 Million App Downloads, Still Hasn’t Slowed Down Netflix

From Nov. 12-24, the Disney Plus mobile app for iOS and Android was downloaded an estimated 15.5 million times, with 86% of those in the U.S., according to app-analytics researcher Apptopia. That’s an average of nearly 1.2 million per day over the 13-day period.
