Prior to that, Lynch was a technology investment banker with Morgan Stanley in New York, Silicon Valley, and London. Indie Label Agency Merlin Calls Foul on Streaming Rates with Pandora

As Billboard puts it into context, the difference between a 0.17 and 0.18 royalty rate would be around $60 million. Though Pandora now pays a greater rate than it previously did, representatives for Merlin are claiming that the Copyright Royalty Board undercut the median favoring Pandora. “[The CRB] fundamentally misread the context of our agreement” Merlin CEO Charles Caldas said to the Billboard, referring to the original negotiated deal of a lower pay for higher exposure. – Michael Scott Barron, THUMP  

Pandora Said to Hire Morgan Stanley to Seek Potential Buyers

The company is working with Morgan Stanley to reach out to buyers, said the person, who asked not to be identified discussing a private matter. The talks are preliminary and may not lead to a deal, the person said Thursday before the online-radio provider reported fourth-quarter earnings that missed analysts’ estimates. It seems Pandora is going to first ingest Rdio’s entire catalog into their Music Genome Project (and add all missing songs to Pandora radio) and then phase two will be to roll out Pandora’s interactive streaming service. It’s rumored to launch later this year. Curiously, Pandora has been quite selective about the songs they ingest when they are submitted by individual artists (many get rejected), but are going to ingest Rdio’s entire catalog to comprise Pandora’s “expanded service,” as they call it. – Ari Herstand, Digital Music News

[…] Because Pandora operates more like a radio station than a huge music library, it’s actually able to stream just about anything for a flat rate, including Taylor Swift and Adele.
