‘The Blacklist’ Finds Canadian Streaming Home With Shomi

Shomi has secured the exclusive Canadian streaming rights to NBC’s The Blacklist. Terms of the Canadian online streaming deal with Sony Pictures Television were not disclosed. Netflix earlier acquired the exclusive streaming rights to The Blacklist for $2 million an episode. The Blacklist airs here on Global Television, a division of Shaw Media, which runs Shomi as part of a joint venture with Rogers Media. Shomi, which is to launch some time this month, also Thursday unveiled a separate Canadian licensing deal with BBC Worldwide North America to secure the streaming rights to Jane Campion’s investigative drama Top of the Lake and the comedy The Wrong Mans. – Etan Vlessing,The Hollywood Reporter

Netflix vs. Shomi: What you can expect from the Rogers/Shaw streaming service

As you may have heard, the new streaming video service, coming from Rogers Media and Shaw Media, will be available to Rogers and Shaw Internet and cable customers in a beta version starting the first week of November. The Netflix-like venture will cost viewers $8.99 per month, and by the end of its first year, the service will reportedly include 1,200 movies and 340 TV titles.
