Twitch streamer suspended for Chun-Li cosplay

Twitch has temporarily suspended the account of streamer Quqco for violating its guidelines on “sexually suggestive content or activities.” The suspension arose following a weekend stream during which she was cosplaying as Street Fighter stalwart Chun-Li. As noted by Kotaku (and known by even casual Street Fighter fans), the outfit includes a thigh-high slit. But Quqco told the site that she “bought one size up to ensure that the slit wasn’t too high.” – Andy Chalk, PC Gamer » https://ift.tt/2LUvaab

World of Warcraft Classic has 1 million Twitch viewers minutes after launch — and long log-in queues

On Twitch, over 1 million people are watching streamers who are playing World of Warcraft. The next most popular game is Grand Theft Auto V at around 150,000 viewers. And if you’re trying to log into World of Warcraft Classic right now, you’ll be put in a queue that could last for hours depending on which server you joined. “Sextortion” Via ‘Fortnite’: How Video Games Can Open Doors for Predators

Roughly 211 million Americans play video games, according to a 2018 NPD report. Of that group, 28 percent are under 18. “We [used to see] sextortion cases on Facebook because that was the medium children were using,” says Greenburg Glusker partner Priya Sopori, who previously worked at the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative, which combats technology-enabled crimes against children. “What we see now is a shift more to video games as the behavioral model changes for children.” – Patrick Shanley, The Hollywood Reporter » http://thr.cm/p0OwNN

Ninja disgusted at Twitch after porn stream was promoted on his channel

Twitch began promoting other channels to his former profile page last week, one of which appears to have been streaming pornography, which was captured in screenshots by users on Twitter today. Blevins says that the channel streaming porn had been bumped to the number one spot, and apologized to users who might have seen it. As of the time of this writing, Ninja’s profile page doesn’t display other channels. – Andrew Liptak, The Verge » https://ift.tt/2KtWk8b

Twitch’s subscriber-only streams violate ToS from Valve, Blizzard, and Riot Games

In a post on Reddit […], user justalazygamer pointed out that the new streams seem to violate the Terms outlined by companies including Blizzard, Valve, and Riot Games. Valve says that “you can’t charge users to view or access your videos,” while Riot says that you can “offer subscription-based content while live-streaming game, so long as non-subscribers can still watch the games concurrently.” – Ali Jones, PCGamesN » https://ift.tt/2xn5Hz7

According to the lawsuit, a group of users coordinated the posting of these illicit streams via Google, Discord, Weebly, and a custom site at ArtifactStreams.com. An archived version of that site contains a listing of “active troll Twitch streams” and links to chat rooms to discuss the effort with others. – Kyle Orland, Ars Technica » http://bit.ly/31EoPGJ

Trolls swamp unused Twitch category with pirated shows and porn

Twitch just learned first-hand about the challenges of moderating live video. Trolls have hijacked the site’s largely unused category for Valve’s Artifact (which previously had few if any streamers) to livestream material that most definitely violated Twitch’s terms of service. Motherboard noted that it started out with memes, but on Memorial Day weekend included pirated Game of Thrones episodes, porn and in one case video from the Christchurch mass shooting. – Jon Fingas, Engadget » https://engt.co/2EEtyhU
