Drake Officially Becomes First Artist to Pass 50 Billion Spotify Streams

Netflix surpasses 200 million subscribers, but has more competition than ever in 2021

Netflix added a total of 8.5 million paid net subscribers in Q4, bringing in a record breaking 37 million paid memberships in 2020. Netflix “achieved $25 billion in annual revenue,” according to the earnings report. Still, Netflix is warning that “we expect paid net adds of 6 million” in Q1 2021 compared to last year’s “15.8 million, which included the impact from the initial COVID-19 lockdowns.” Most importantly, however, Netflix executives are telling shareholders that “we no longer have a need to raise external financing for our day-to-day operations.” Or, more simply put, Netflix no longer needs to borrow substantial amounts of cash. – Julia Alexander, The Verge » https://ift.tt/3nV9UBT

AT&T kills off the failed TV service formerly known as DirecTV Now

AT&T unveiled DirecTV Now late in 2016, the year after AT&T bought the DirecTV satellite company. Prices originally started at $35 a month for the live-TV online service, and it had signed up 1.86 million subscribers by Q3 2018. Netflix Buys Gal Gadot Espionage Thriller ‘Heart of Stone’ From Skydance

“Heart of Stone” marks the second major movie that Skydance has siphoned off this week. On Tuesday, Amazon Studios emerged as the frontrunner for “The Tomorrow War,” a science-fiction spectacle starring Chris Pratt. Apple again extends Apple TV+ free trials, subscribers now get free access until July 2021 – 9to5Mac

Any current customers with free trials set to end in the February to June period will now see those subscription renewals pushed out to July. The Office Was the Most-Watched Show on Any Streaming Service in 2020

Nielsen released its numbers for the top TV shows and movies on streaming services from last year, and The Office stood tall against all of its competition. Over the course of 2020, 57.13 billion minutes of The Office were watched by Netflix users in the United States.
